19th Dorset Rapidplay held in Ringwood Sun 30 March 2014

There was an actual attendance of 48, participating in 6 rounds at the Ringwood Community Centre, Greyfriars

Many people seemed to like the venue - there were 2 halls separated by a kitchen - one hall was the chess playing area and the other was for socialising, analysis, refreshments and lunch.  Lunch was included in the £10 entry fee and had hot food provided free to the Rapidplay by Martin Simons - apparently unusual for chess congresses and liked at this one.  The Greyfriars centre has some gardens and walking and sitting areas - these were popular for players between rounds in the warm Spring sunshine.

It was a relaxed and friendly day of chess, but still played in a competitive spirit.  Martin Simons, as Controller, is committed to creating prizes through all grades and playing levels - and evidence of this was that there were 29 prize winners out of 48 competing.

Results and other details, including prize winners is given below.

Especial thanks to all those who helped run the Rapidplay and we are very grateful for all the donations which helped to make a margin to carry forward to next year.

The overall winner appeared to be the sheer enjoyment of playing chess in the friendly atmosphere created by the players themselves.

We have now established a date for the 20th Dorset Rapidplay - 22 Mar '15 (not 29 Mar '15 as originally planned). Please see the page "Rapidplay 2015", which also has a drop-down box, with entry form. Although we have not got on-line entry, it is possible to enter via email and be sent details of a bank account for electronic payment.
